Prostate Cancer Research

Cancer is very difficult to cure and so it needs more attention and care while doing treatment for it. It is a truth that men are mostly effected for this disease than a woman. Prostate cancer affects thousands of men. Prostate cancer research is mainly aimed to raise funds and awareness to help improve treatment and find a cure or a cure for this disease. Prostate cancer is rare in men younger than 45 years, usually affecting men in their 50’s and is diagnosed more often in men above 70 years. Like cancer that affects especially older men, often go unnoticed because they may have no symptoms in the early stages or symptoms are noticed or attributed to “old age”.

There is not yet a cure for prostate cancer, for which the research reviewed here as well as men suffer from prostate cancer. The study will also examine ways to improve current therapies and how to prevent cancer recurrence after treatment. Prostrate gland is located between the bladder and rectum, and part of the male genitalia. The prostate is used in the production and storage of semen. Current treatments for prostate cancer depends on where cancer has metastasized (spread) to other parts of the body, especially bones and lymph nodes, or not. If the tumor is still within the prostate, radiation therapy can then be performed to kill cancer cells.

Radical prostatectomy can also be performed. This is surgery to remove the entire prostate. If surgery is successful and cancer removed is the probability of recurrence is low. Recurrence of cancer is slightly higher if the radiation was performed. If cancer has spread outside the prostate, then prostate radiotherapy and other treatment options will not work. Hormone therapy can be done to limit the growth hormone. The growth of prostate cancer associated with male hormones called androgens.

Androgens such as testosterone is produced in the testes and the hormones can cause the tumor to grow rapidly, increasing the risk of spreading cells. Therefore, by limiting the number of male hormones may slow tumor growth. This can be done with medication, although sometimes the testicles are removed to help the hormone treatment. The second treatment option is called “watchful waiting” or “active surveillance”. In this time no medical treatment is initiated, but you are closely monitored by the doctor, and tests are performed to detect any changes in the tumor.

It is hoped that with research on prostate cancer continues, treatments are available, and several options are available, especially to reduce the incidence of recurrence after treatment. The ultimate goal of research on prostate cancer is to find a cure for this deadly disease. By proper treatment and precautions, it is possible to treat cancer in the early stages. Up to some extend, it is also possible to take care of our health and take precautions against cancer development in possible ways. If we can find out the starting stage of cancer then it is a blessing. It is easy to cure cancer by using proper medicines in the early stages of cancer.
